Welcome!

Dear [FIRSTNAME],
This month we're having a quick round-up of interesting places you've found on the net, two of which have Jewish connections (can you guess wich ones?) . Gilly Shulman has been very busy adding lots of new HR documents to our Community Resources site, a few of which we've hilighted below. Judy Plaut has released a lovely resource to be used along side the new siddur for Kabbalat Shabbat. Lastly in lieu of any questions this month there's a short article on security and some more tips from Lise at Rakefet.

As always, if you have any questions or something you'd like to share in the next newsletter, just reply to this email and I'll make sure it gets included.

Answers, Not Searches

http://www.wolframalpha.com/

This is may be one to keep your eye on.
Wolfram|Alpha's long-term goal is to make all systematic knowledge immediately computable and accessible to everyone. They aim to collect and curate all objective data; implement every known model, method, and algorithm; and make it possible to compute whatever can be computed about anything. Their goal is to build on the achievements of science and other systematizations of knowledge to provide a single source that can be relied on by everyone for definitive answers to factual queries. Quite an ambitious goal!

They are sill al long way from completion (for instance they haven’t loaded any data on Religion yet) however it’s amazing what you can pull from their system already.

Watch their webcast for a demo to see just how powerful it is. Read more

Rakefet Accounts
Dear Lise,
Several months ago a congregant made a L100 donation to the Library Fund.  Subsequently he found himself in financial straits.  As our fiscal year draws to a close, he has still not paid off his membership subscription.   The financial secretary gave him permission to retroactively apply that donation to his subscription and told me to take care of it. Should I just change the account number and payment type in the original transaction?
