Tisha B'Av

Tonight, Wednesday 29th July and tomorrow, 30th July is Tisha B'Av, the ninth day of the month of Av when we mark the destruction of the two Temples in Jerusalem as well as a number of other disasters which are said to have befallen the Jewish people on this day. Thought for the Day

Times/Sternberg Life Award


James Harding, Editor of The Times hosted tea earlier this month for candidates who had been short-listed for the first Times/Sternberg Active Life award.

Sir Sigmund, President of the Movement for Reform Judaism was thanked for his idea to establish an award to honour older people and to celebrate their achievements. Tribute was also paid to those who had been short-listed including Helen Bamber who won the award in recognition of her work with the victims of human rights abuses.

Briefing with Gidi Grinstein, Founder and President of the Reut Institute, Israel. Mr Grinstein served in the Bureau of the Prime Minister as Secretary and Coordinator of the Israeli Permanent Status negotiations team between 1999 and 2001.

8th September at Finchley Reform Synagogue

Join New Israel Fund and its panel of social activists chaired by Rabbi Laura Janner-Klausner to learn about the landmark achievements NIF and its grantees gained in legislation, empowerment and equal opportunities for women in Israel.

Kesher: are Ashkenazi Jews more prone to cancer?
13th September at West London Synagogue

Discussion on a study into the possibility of offering testing for cancer predisposing genes to an entire community and comparing this to the current practice of testing solely on the basis of family history.
